Due to my very busty figure, I usually make my tops a little long. I find longer tops more flattering on me since a longer length creates a longer rectangle shape versus a boxy square.
The neckband is created from the same fabric using a technique I learned at FIT and described in a previous post.
For my figure, I need darts even in knits. I made sure to match the stripes at the side seams all the way up to the dart. I created the dart using the technique described in a previous post. The stripes get distorted above the dart but that is OK with me since my arm is down most of the time.
Here is the back view. Like I said, it is just a simple little top. The pattern is self drafted. If you want to make a similar top from a pattern, since it is so basic, you can find a similar silhouette by searching one of the major pattern companies or the independent pattern companies.
I hope you are enjoying the summer (for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere). I will be savoring the rest of it.
Because I don't want to part with a photo of my back, here is a beautiful photo taken from a hike I went to in Northern New Jersey:

Happy Sewing!
Sometimes simple is simply best! I know you will enjoy wearing your top.
ReplyDeleteThank you Vanessa. I have in fact worn it several times already.
DeleteSo glad you are enjoying the few weeks left of your northern summer Tomasa. Yesterday the temperature in my parked car was 105 degrees. I think we have plenty of summer weather left in southern USA. There is nothing like a great fitting t-shirt. Yours looks great and the neckline is well shaped with no gaping whatsoever. Now I'm headed back to the post you mentioned above to see just how you did the neckline.
ReplyDeleteWow - 105 degrees!? We haven't had any days thus far this summer that are that hot. We have had maybe a week or two of 90+ degrees but overall it has been a mild summer. It's already cooling off a little. Next week the highest temperature will be 79 degrees so it already feels like fall to me. Oh well. There still is a chance that it will get hot again the next few weeks. Yes, that neckline technique has been very useful to me so I highly recommend it.
DeleteSimple is good. Classic with great fit, excellent stripe matching, and expert finishing in a fabric worth taking time with, that's worth a little celebration! That one can give you happy service for a long time.
ReplyDeleteThanks Barbara! Simple tops are what I wear the most so it will be in heavy rotation.
DeleteI always admire your fitting skills.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Connie! Some times I am more successful than other times though.
DeleteNice, simple top! You'll definitely get a lot of wear out of this one. NJ is so pretty. It's one of the states I haven't been to. What a cute pic!
ReplyDeleteThanks! NJ is usually the brunt of a lot of bad jokes. There was a time in its history where polluters ran amok and contaminated the rivers and lands so in a way, NJ earned the jokes and bad reputation. But the state has been working really hard the past 30 years to decontaminate and clean its rivers and hold the polluters accountable and progress has been made. But if you land at Newark International Airport and ride up north along the NJ Turnpike, you will see the ugliest part of NJ I think. Ugh! They should put some type of wall up or something.
DeleteAnyway, NJ has 140 miles of beaches and boardwalks which are very popular and visited by many. It also has beautiful rural areas, farms and suburbs. It is the 4th smallest state in the US but one of the most densely populated too. It's a mixed bag but it's home! And where I live, it's a quick commute to NYC's garment center - woohoo!
This boxy squared tee is really good for warm weather! I would like to make mine as well as like yours:) It's a great work.
ReplyDeleteThank you Eli cat! It is perfect for summer weather. And I am 100% confident you can make one just as good or better!
Deletethis is always the way with simple basics... not much to say about them! But Im glad you decided to blog about this because yes its simple, but effective with the stripes and it looks great on as you have perfected the fit. And thank you for leaving us with the parting photo... what a stunning place! You have such a beautiful country.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dawn! I live in basics so I tend to sewing lots of basic pieces. Yes, the US is a very beautiful country with a wide variety of climates and topography. I have never been to the U.K. but have heard about what a wonderful place it is...hopefully someday I can visit!
DeleteI hope you can too!
DeleteThis top is a good reminder of how lovely clean basics can be. You know how a good roasted chicken is so revealing about the underlying skill set of a cook--so it is here. The neckband sits so beautifully and your stripe matching is excellent!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Elizabeth! You must make some really good roasted chicken!!
